The International Metaphysical Ministry (IMM) is a non-profit religious exempt organization designated by the Internal Revenue Service of the United States. The IMM engages in private, post secondary distance learning religious education.

The IMM operates the University of Metaphysics that has decades long service in the religious private post secondary religious field.

The IMM operates the University of Sedona.  Sedona is the headquarters of administrative and professional staff for the organization.

IMM and its affiliated schools have continuously maintained the highest level of a religious private post secondary educational standards for the consuming public as potential students.

The IMM is a worldwide ministry that has exposure in the domestic United States along with all other nations internationally.

Presently, there are state jurisdictions in the United States that have little, if any, regulatory criteria for private post secondary distance learning religious schools.

The IMM maintains its own quality control, extensive oversight and critical evaluation of its activities and religious curriculum to provide the best, most comprehensive and good faith presentations of metaphysics today.

The leadership of Reverend Paul L. Masters as the founder of IMM and its religious schools has established himself as the vanguard and most progressive thinker and exponent of new thought ministry in the religious area of metaphysics.

Many other private religious post secondary religious schools try to emulate his ministry. Presently, the students and/or consumers are of paramount concern to IMM who has comprehensive disclosure of all material facts and circumstances arising out of and relative to its educational degrees emphasizing religious activities.

IMM diligently seeks to protect religious freedom, liberty and its practices especially in the area of new thought ministry encompassing metaphysics.

The consuming public and potential students must understand imitation, violation of name registration, trademark, copyright, rules and regulations are conducted by others unlawfully, in acting to take advantage of the decades of service and success of I.M.M. schools in religious endeavors.

Make your choice The International Metaphysical Ministry (IMM) for your religious private post secondary distance learning educational endeavors.

Accreditation

The U.S. Department of Education Office of Post Secondary Education does have a data base of accredited and/or accrediting agencies or state approved agencies recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

They are part of what is called a reliable authority as to the quality of post secondary education within the meaning of the Higher Education Act of 1965.The Higher Education Act, on information and belief, does not relate to religious education or metaphysical spirituality but in the secular area. The database of the Department of Education relates to those who elect to seek accreditation and have provided information to do so.

Also, there are institutions and programs that elect not to seek accreditation but never-the-less may provide a quality post secondary education. In other words, quality institutions and programs can be such without any stamp of accreditation approval.

This further leads to the controversy arising out of and relative to accreditation whether defined by the federal government or whether regarding state or other criteria. Accreditation, under the U.S. Department of Education rules relates to ensuring institutions of higher education have acceptable levels of quality.

On this matter, accrediting agencies of private educational institutions develop a national scope and criteria in which peer evaluations are used to assess whether or not those criteria are met for a particular school or institution.  In other words, whether the school meets the agencies criteria.  If they do, they are called accredited by the agency.

The Secretary of Education, per the rules and regulations, publishes a list of accrediting agencies that the Secretary determines to be reliable authorities as to the quality of education or training provided by the institutions or schools of higher education that they accredit.

The U.S. Secretary of Education does recognize state agencies for the approval of public post secondary vocational education and state agencies for the approval of nurse education for example. On this matter, institutions and programs outside of the U.S., that are accredited by recognized agencies, are no included in the U.S .Department of Education database.

The U.S. Department of Education recommends that the database be used for one source of qualitative information and that additional sources of qualitative information can be consulted as well.

In other words, the database that is provided as a public service is without any warranty or guarantee of any kind and the database does not constitute any endorsement by the U.S. Department of Education of any educational institution or programs.

Accreditation seeks to make some kind of evaluation that there is quality education based on the peer reviewed type of system. This is the gist of what accreditation can mean through the U.S. Department of Education as implemented by the Secretary of Education.

History, Organizational & Metaphysical University Development

University of Sedona History

In 1959, Dr. Masters opened the Institute of Parapsychology in the heart of Beverly Hills, California. The aim of the institute was to research higher and expanded states of consciousness as they related to spiritual reality and human self betterment. He built a large following of students and relocated to the Hollywood area where additional space was available. During the same time period, Dr. Masters trained his first few teachers.

In 1963, Dr. Masters opened the Metaphysical Foundation as a follow-up to research findings amassed in the Institute of Parapsychology. The study and research now focused primarily on the practices of meditation. Thousands of research experiences by experimenting students were recorded and the effects on their practical daily lives and spiritual unfoldment were noted. During this time, Dr. Masters trained numerous meditation teachers.

In 1965, information gathered in the previous years of research began to spread beyond the Southern California area in the form of printed lessons. Because of this, the National Metaphysics Institute was founded by Dr. Masters. The lessons attracted attention in all parts of the country from people who wished to learn and to teach the spiritual truths revealed in the lesson materials. Dr. Masters created specific ministerial ordination programs so students could obtain ministerial status through distance learning and home study.

In 1976, Dr. Masters applied for and gained the legal right to establish the University of Metaphysics and grant non-secular degrees. These degrees were to be granted to those who were ordained by the N.M.I. ministry up to a Doctoral Degree level. The new programs were to fill a need voiced by current students. At that time, Dr. Masters began to advertise the Doctoral program in various regional and national magazines related to metaphysics. As if by Divine plan, enrolments came from all over the United States, as well as the entire world.

By 1989, thousands had enrolled in Doctoral Degree programs throughout the world. The organization and its university had become international. To meet the needs of this enormous growth, Dr. Masters incorporated the International Metaphysical Ministry which exists up to the present day.

In 2002, Dr. Masters visited Sedona, Arizona—a place he had heard of for years as having a great deal of metaphysical activity. Dr. Masters knew people who claimed to have spiritual experiences in energy vortexes in the area. The spiritual energy and the inspiring beauty of Sedona, combined with inner higher guidance caused Dr. Masters to take steps to create a University there.

In 2003, Dr. Masters was granted the legal right, in Arizona, to found the University of Sedona. H was also granted the legal right to award non-secular degress up to doctoral or Ph.D. level in various ministerial specialities of the organization - the International Metaphysical Ministry

In 2003, in order to centralize the function of the two university programs - the University of Metaphysics wasmoved in its entirety (all accumulated records of housands of students and graduates) to the Sedona area. This meant that tuition rates would continue to be affordable.

The University of Metaphysics and the newer University of Sedona continue to grow, with worldwide student population in the thousands. Both Universities are still under the direction of Dr. Masters. From its beginning in 1959 and having attracted an international alumni - the student population continues to study and bring the higher truth of human nature to a world so in need of it.

University of Metaphysics

The University Of Metaphysics is a private, post secondary, distance learning, theological school operating under the auspices of the International Metaphysical Ministry. IMM is a non-profit, religious exempt organization as designated by the Internal Revenue Service of the United States. The curriculum is strictly non-secular and theological in nature. Students are prepared for Ministerial and other related careers in the holistic, New Thought branch of Metaphysical Theology.

New Thought, as a theological movement, began in the nineteenth century. This movement was thrust forward by a number of spiritual thinkers and philosophers such as Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, Myrtle Fillmore, Charles Fillmore, William Walker Atkinson and Ernest Holmes. From its inception, independence of thought, teachings, and belief has been an important, deeply rooted characteristic of the New Thought Movement. This makes it difficult for academia to categorize New Thought Churches, Ministries, and Organizations into set denominations with explicit boundaries of belief - as they do with other religious movements. Nevertheless, a number of New Thought Denominations, such as Unity Church and Religious Science, have become easily recognizable by main stream society.

The University Of Metaphysics is totally focused on a New Thought Theological Curriculum and legally exists beyond the scope of the (U.S.) Higher Education Act of 1965. The University has been influenced for over fifty years by the deeply rooted tradition of independence of the New Thought Movement. The University has chosen independence rather than joining with a secular type association, organization or agency for accreditation. There is no official accrediting agency governing metaphysical education.

Therefore, the IMM voluntarily maintains extensive oversight, quality control, and critical evaluation of the University’s activities, and religious curriculum. Academic standards that are at least equal to that of most secular, accredited, post secondary educational institutions within the United States are strictly maintained. This is accomplished through both exam and Thesis/Dissertation review.

The University Of Metaphysics can trace its history as a teaching institution, with its own unique philosophy over the last fifty years. This would include various educational and research facilities. The actual University Of Metaphysics, an independent entity as it exists today, was founded in 1976 by Dr. Paul Leon Masters. The University of Metaphysics applied for, and was granted, full legal right to award non-secular degrees up to Doctoral or Ph.D. level in the various ministerial specialties.

The International Metaphysical Ministry, which operates the University Of Metaphysics, is a worldwide New Thought Metaphysical Ministry having exposure in the domestic United States along with over 120 countries internationally. IMM has over fifty years of service in the private, post secondary religious field.
